چکیده
Abstract Introduction It is estimated that up to 20% of ovarian cancers have an inherited genetic etiology with the most common being BRCA1/2 mutations. For women these mutations risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (RRBSO) reduce risk primary cancer often performed, however surgery results in immediate onset surgical menopause. Aim The aim this systematic review was explore psychosexual impacts reducing salpingo oophorectomy published qualitative literature. Methods PubMed, Medline, Web Science and PsycInfo were searched for papers looked at impact RRBSO on individuals who pre-menopausal time surgery. Studies quality assessed using Mixed Method Appraisal Tool (MMAT) Standard Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR) checklists data extracted. Thematic synthesis performed. Results Of 143 identified searching, 5 relating interviews 115 after between 2000 2020. moderate. Five different themes related individual experiences RRBSO: (1) information needs, (2) psychological impact, (3) (4) partner support (5) hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Conclusion Individual varied influenced by multiple factors but problems common, caused significant distress their partners poorly explained before Women do not feel adequately prepared sexual side effects RRBSO. provides invaluable insight into can be used better help mitigate

Risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy for BRCA mutation carriers.
It has been twenty years since the region of the BRCA1mutationwas identified on chromosome 17q. There are now over 3000 risk reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) cases reported and an estimated 150 cases describing unsuspected cancers of the ovaries and tubes or in situ lesions. Connor et al. in their current study add to the literature on RRSO outcomes [1]. They report on 345 cases of RRSO in...
متن کاملBreast Cancer Incidence After Risk-Reducing Salpingo- Oophorectomy in BRCA1 and BRCA2 Mutation Carriers
Premenopausal risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers effectively reduces ovarian cancer risk, but also reduces breast cancer risk. Breast cancer risk reductions up to 50%have been reported for both BRCA1 and BRCA2mutation carriers, but recent prospective studies were not able to reproduce this finding for BRCA1 mutation carriers. Breast cancer incidence after RR...
متن کاملMeta-analysis of Risk Reduction Estimates Associated With Risk-Reducing Salpingo-oophorectomy in BRCA1 or BRCA2 Mutation Carriers
BACKGROUND Risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy (RRSO) is widely used by carriers of BRCA1 or BRCA2 (BRCA1/2) mutations to reduce their risks of breast and ovarian cancer. To guide women and their clinicians in optimizing cancer prevention strategies, we summarized the magnitude of the risk reductions in women with BRCA1/2 mutations who have undergone RRSO compared with those who have not. MET...
متن کامل“Best practices in risk reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy: the influence of surgical specialty”
BACKGROUND Risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (RRBSO) increases survival in patients at high risk of developing ovarian cancer. While many general gynecologists perform this procedure, some argue it should be performed exclusively by specialists. In this retrospective observational study, we identified how often optimal techniques were used and whether surgeons' training impacted imp...

Women undergoing risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy through the Prince of Wales Hospital Hereditary Cancer Clinic are offered enrolment in a prospective study of bone mineral density (BMD), markers of bone metabolism and cardio-vascular risk factors. Participants are invited to enroll a friend who has ovaries in situ and are aged within five years of the participant as a control population. Lu...
